Grace Kelly’s Classic Bridal Beauty
Brides often ask me my opinion of certain current bridal trends, like braided hairstyles or strong facial contouring and highlighting or matte vs. dewy lips. I find that I always refer back to the classics when I answer. Don’t get me wrong, I love researching and trying new trends in fashion, makeup and hair. There is a time and a place for all things ‘trendy’ but when it comes to giving a bride my advice in regards to her wedding day beauty, I always tell her, “classic styles just can’t be beat.”
This is class. Oh, be still my heart!
Grace Kelly on her wedding day is a perfect example of a bridal style that is simply timeless. From the elegance of her wedding gown to the clean simplicity of her updo and her classically beautiful makeup, she radiates an ageless bridal look. Take notice – her brows are strong but they compliment her face instead of taking over her face. Her eyes were kept light focusing on liner and lashes. Her lips pop with a gorgeous shade of classic red and her blush is understated but photographs perfectly.
Trend vs. classic
Now let’s compare Princess Diana on her big day. She’s stunning no doubt about it but she would be stunning if they had thrown a paper bag over her head! She was born a natural beauty. No one can argue that point. But what takes away from her natural beauty is how dated her wedding day look is to us now. She was married in the early 80’s and we would know this even if we weren’t sure of her wedding date. Why? Because her overall style screams “1980’s!” From the big poufy sleeves on her taffeta dress to the Farrah Fawcett inspired hairstyle to the black liner caked on her lower lash line, her bridal look is dated. Beautiful in 1981, dated in 2016.
So my question is, what type of bride do you want to be? Do you want to look back at your wedding day photos and see a classic style and a timeless beauty that never fades or would you rather be on trend today and look back with regret?
