Learn How The Pro’s Stock Their Makeup Kits: My Top 7 Multipurpose Makeup Products (with ingredient lists)

Social Media does have it’s good points

One of the best things about social media is that cosmetic brands are now able to provide insight to their online audiences about how and where their products are being made as well educating the consumer on the ingredients within each product.

Not all cosmetic companies have jumped on the social media bandwagon yet with this type of clarity but many have.  It’s no longer only makeup artists that demand to know more about the cosmetics they purchase.  Nowadays the average consumer walking into a Shoppers Drug Mart store wants to understand more about their purchases too.  Consumers are finally able to get the information they need to make informed purchases.

Knowledge is power

Whenever I teach one of my private makeup lessons I always try my best to provide my client with cosmetics facts and stear clear of trendy hype  single use products.  Multipurpose makeup products save my clients money and from a professional stand point, they save my business money as well.

Demand more from your cosmetic brands

I can’t stress the importance of reading cosmetic labels and understanding the ingredients/chemicals that you place on your face every day. The more you research, the more you realize how similar many makeup products actually are.  In fact, once you start reading your makeup labels more closely you’ll understand why the Cosmetic Industry is over a 460 billion dollar market. (stat taken from Businesswire)  This industry knows how to market and sell the same makeup product for so many separate uses, it’s shocking!

So save yourself a little money.  Here are my top 7 multipurpose makeup products that are stocked in my professional (and personal) kit.

RMS Beauty Master Mixer

This is a new product that I added to my pro kit just this year.  Talk about a versatile product!  I use this luminous cream to create a gorgeous glowy cheek highlight.  I also use it on the eyes for a natural glow and to the lips for a wash of colour. I’ve also been known to mix the Master Mixer into a lipshade to bring a warmth to a bolder lip colour.  This cream is also gorgeous when applied lightly to the collar bone.  Take a look at the video below demonstrating a few ways to use this magic little mixer.  🙂

Ingredients: *Cocos Nucifera (Coconut) Oil, *Cera Alba (Beeswax), *Simmondsia Chinesis (Jojoba) Seed Oil, *Theobroma Cacao (Cocoa) Seed Butter, Silica, Tocopherol (non-GMO), *Rosmarinus officinalis (Rosemary) Extract, Mica and may contain [+/- Titanium Dioxide CI77891, Iron Oxides CI 77491, CI 77492, CI 77499] *Certified Organic

Viseart Matte Eyeshadow Palettes Viseart neutral matte palette is an excellent multifunctional product

A long time staple in many pro makeup artists kits, Viseart eyeshadows really are the Granddaddy of eyeshadows.  I stock several of the Viseart palettes and use them in various ways.  The main and obvious way to use these luxury eyeshadows is to apply them to the eye lids.

Duh….tell me something I don’t know Vicki! 😉 OK,  I will…..

You can also use the matte formulations to fill in brows or to use as a eyeliner.  A wet liner brush will give you a smudge proof eyeliner while a dry brush will give a softer more subtle eyeliner look.

When you’re a little late touching up your roots, add a little matte Viseart eyeshadow in the same colour as your hair to your roots.  Massage onto the roots of your hair and like magic those greys are gone!

Another tip….find a matte shade 2 times darker than your skin colour and use it as a contour powder.

Oh, the wonders of a good matte eyeshadow are endless. 🙂

NYX Mega Shine Clear Lip Gloss  [clickToTweet tweet=”Clear lip gloss hacks! Check it out!” quote=”Clear lip gloss hacks! Check it out!”] All the ways you can use clear gloss

Clear lip gloss is something you’re bound to find in almost all pro makeup artists kits.  I use this handy little product to tone down other coloured glosses as well as adding dimension to an existing lip shade.

I also use clear gloss to tame eyebrows and give a pretty sheen effect to the brow hairs.

A little wee bit of clear gloss on top of lid is a quick way to get a glossy eyeshadow look.  Do keep in mind that you need very little for this effect.  It will also need to be re-applied if you intend to wear it over a period of time.

NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer NARS creamy concealer has multi makeup uses

A creamy concealer that conceals dark circles?  Yes please!  🙂 The trick with this concealer is to work fast if you prefer a soft diffused light finish.  If you prefer a fuller coverage then apply this concealer and then wait a couple of minutes for the product to begin to set.  Then blend into the skin using a damp Beauty Blender or a Real Techniques Sponge.

Another little trick is to a use this concealer as a cheek highlight.  Use one shade lighter than your natural skin tone to achieve a natural ‘glow from within’ highlight.  If you’re all about achieving natural glowy skin you’ll love this post I wrote awhile back.

Finally, I mix this concealer with a light lip shade to create the absolute most perfectly matched nude lip for my clients.
